Why is it, you think, that niggas are supposed to be such dogmatic practitioners of political principals that everybody else, including and especially the ones they benefit the most, can try on and discard as they see fit?
I mean, shit, Hillary Clinton can vote from the Senate for George W. Bush’s war with Iraq and niggas can’t make no money off the fact that Donald Trump has been elected president?
How fucking crazy is that?
Are we really supposed to believe that he’s a racist/sexist/misogynist/homophobe or ain’t we – like everybody else – supposed to realize that those was just roles that he played to get elected?
And like I’ve been saying, the fact that America could elect a muhfucca that ran on a platform of racism, sexism, misogyny and homophobia says way more about America than it does about the dude that was shrewd enough to peep game and then tailor his shit to fit it.
And this happens to bother me in particular, not only because I got accepted by Talladega, nor as a proud (thumping my chest as I type this shit) alumni of another HBCU, but because I also happen to know firsthand how a bunch of other misguided HBCU kids fucked their own money over by being politically over their heads, making decisions based on the wrong principles and attaining a shortsighted win the equivalent of watching the Cavs beat the Bucks 100-99, but losing LeBron to injury for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs.
Now, because Atwater had so effectively used racism with his depiction of a world filled with Black rapists and miscreants like Willie Horton to get his own boy, George HW Bush elected, Howard kids judged that Atwater himself was a racist, protested, got him kicked off the Board and a golden opportunity to buddy up to (and get money off of) the elder Bush’s administration was squandered and loss.
That was some bullshit.
What did those kids know about politics, racism or anything else at that point in their lives?
And don’t come talking to me about principles, nigga.
Your number one principle needs to be self-preservation, staying afloat.
Every other day it seems like we’re reading about some HBCU going under or on the verge of going under and it’s not like HBCUs have alumni that give back billions once they establish themselves.
Every little bit helps.
And unless you’ve got your own political platform and a checkbook open ready to give to Talladega, how dare you tell them not to let their marching band play Trump’s inauguration or anything else that, in the long run, will almost certainly raise their exposure and put some cash in hand.
Already and across the board, we’re seeing white muhfuccas lining up to figure out ways to work with Trump, fools that said all kinds of crazy shit like how they’d leave this country if he got elected and whatnot.
But niggas are supposed to be the ones toeing the line for an ideology, position, platform or political party that’s always, at best, kept us as an afterthought and, at worse, laughed as we pulled those levers in their favor knowing they ain’t never had no plans to do nothing for us no how?
